About axabio®
At axabio®, we believe technology and nature can work hand in hand to improve the health of people and the planet. Based in Belgium, we cultivate microalgae using patented flat-panel bioreactor technology to produce natural astaxanthin, the world’s most powerful antioxidant, with unmatched purity and stability. Our products support food supplements and cosmetic worldwide.
Our culture can be summed up in three words: natural astaxanthin, reinvented. We don’t make products, serve customers, or solve problems the way the industry always has. Reinvention is our default setting, and we look for people who instinctively ask whether there is a better, more natural way to do things.
The Role
This role sits right at the intersection of product development and customer success, the bridge between our lab and the people who use what we make.
On one side, you own the product development roadmap and then roll up your sleeves to deliver it, taking new astaxanthin-based formulations from first idea to finished, validated product. On the other hand, you are the technical face axabio® shows its customers: helping them with formulation challenges, answering technical questions about our ingredient, and growing the relationships we already have.
It is a role for someone who is energised by both the strategy of what we should build next and the hands-on execution of actually building it, and who genuinely enjoys helping a customer succeed along the way.
What You’ll Do
- Own the product roadmap, then build it. Shape where our astaxanthin-based product range goes next, and stay hands-on through the actual development, from concept to validated formulation.
- Run development end to end. Lead lab trials, stability and application work, and technical documentation, stock management working cross-functionally with R&D, production (external & internal), logistics and quality.
- Be the technical partner for customers. Support formulation requests, answer technical questions about our natural astaxanthin, and help clients get our ingredients to perform beautifully in their own products.
- Grow existing accounts. Spot upselling and expansion opportunities within current contracts and, hand in hand with sales, turn technical trust into commercial growth.
- Translate the market into a pipeline. Turn customer needs and market signals into a clear, prioritised pipeline of new products for nutraceutical and cosmetic applications.
- Reinvent, don’t repeat. Question conventional formulation and development approaches, and find smarter, more sustainable ways to deliver value, true to “natural astaxanthin, reinvented.”
Desired Experience
- Between 1 and 5 years of relevant experience in product development, R&D, application or technical support, or formulation, ideally within nutraceuticals, cosmetics, food, pharma, or
biotech. - A scientific background and a strong, proven scientific track record (e.g. a degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, food science, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field).
- Hands-on experience taking products or formulations from concept towards launch, not just designing them on paper.
- Genuine affinity for working with clients, you enjoy customer-facing work and are comfortable translating technical detail into clear, practical solutions.
- In case your experience doesn’t tick every box but you are excited about the role, please do still apply. Mindset matters more than a perfect CV.
Core Competencies
- Scientific Rigour: you ground your decisions in evidence and have the track record to back
it up. - Builder’s Mindset: you love both designing the roadmap and doing the real development
work behind it. - Customer Empathy: you connect with people and translate science into value they can
actually use. - Reinvention: you instinctively challenge the default and look for a better, more natural way.
- Ownership: given autonomy, you run with things and hold yourself accountable for the
outcome. - Clear Communication: you move fluently between the lab bench and the customer call.
- Growth Mindset: you are eager to learn, experiment, and develop as axabio® scales.
